Eight weeks ago, I had an accident that broke multiple bones in both my neck and back. Two hospitals, over 30 hours in the ER, spinal fusion surgery and a week-long hospital stay provided me with many opportunities to take stock in my situation and life. As I reflect on that first week and the seven additional weeks of recovery since I’ve decided to embrace a new mantra: Perspective is Priceless!

Observing and exploring perspective is the primary key to unlocking any challenge life sends your way whether you are leading thousands, leading yourself or anywhere in the middle.

My mind has been on a wild and fascinating roller coaster ride these past couple of weeks. Despite immense pain and discomfort, I initially rode a huge wave of extremely positive highs acknowledging how fortunate I was to be alive, not paralyzed and able to slow down and appreciate the many little things in my life. 

This past week, I experienced a serious accident and I wanted to be the one to let you know what’s going on with me. 

Last Monday, on the evening of July 26th, I had an accident on my mountain bike. I broke and fractured several bones in my neck and back. It required surgery on my neck to fuse together multiple bones and fragments to protect my spinal cord. After spending five nights in the hospital, I returned home Saturday night.
